“Indigenous Climate Connections will bring together 60 young
Indigenous people from all over Asia & the Pacific.  It’ll be a week
of whakawhānaunga and wānanga on what climate change means for our
communities.  Especially when you consider what is happening at home
here in the Pacific with our whanaunga living on small island nations.
There will be people from countries as diverse as Tuvalu, Taiwan,
Aotearoa and India at this hui,” said Horomona Horo member of the

"Indigenous Youth from Asia and the Pacific will arrive in Aotearoa by
October 24th, spending the next 2 days with rangatahi Māori in local
communities.  We will then gather with other Maori and Pasifika
peoples on October 26th at Te Hotu Manawa o Rangitaane o Manawatu
Marae to hui and wananga this kaupapa.

“The twin kaupapa of the hui are the United Nations Declaration on the
rights of Indigenous Peoples and climate change.  So Indigenous
Climate Connections will support Indigenous youth to understand and
take action on climate change as an issue that affects our Tino
Rangatiratanga,”

Indigenous Climate Connections is a collaborative project between
APIYN and local hosts Conscious Collaborations, supported by Ngā Pae o
te Māramatanga and the Hikurangi Foundation.
